Introduction to Kata

Kata forms part of your training. It is your Kihon (basics) and kumite (fighting techniques) all brought together in a set form of movements.

Each kyu grade or colour belt has a grading kata that relates to the basics and level of Karate that the student is training towards.

Click again on the Kata button on the menu above or on the links below, for videos of all of the Shotokan Katas from beginner through to advanced level black belt. These contain walkthrough instructions and information regarding the stances and transitions within these katas.

Also included is information on where these katas lie within the KUGB syllabus.

Use these videos as a starting point to discover and self-reflect.
